RAFW 10 • Therese Rawsthorne • Romance was Born • Ksubi SS 10/11

18 May 2010

I have been shirking the past few runway shows, thinking over time I will gradually post bits and bobs of some of the latest Spring and Summer collections in small doses, however I quickly came to the conclusion If I am not going to post it now, I never will - not the best of mentality I know, so I had skimmed through some of the RAFW Rosemary Australian Fashion Week collection's over the past few weeks and decided to post some of the collections present below at the RAFW.

Therese Rawsthorne SS10/11 Collection
What captured my inquiring mind and curiosity were the shoes in this collection by Tristian Blair with a silver bangle around the ankle infusing the extremely wearable pieces consisting of blazers with embellished cut leggings the palette inspired by the desert and dry textures, with hand knits, washed cottons and silks of nude, blood red and black.

ROMANCE WAS BORN
Australian design duo Anna Plunkett and Luke Sales created the label Romance was Born 5 years ago after becoming friends studying fashion together at East Sydney Technical College. The SS10/11 dinosaur inspired theme mollified throughout all the quirky accessories, make-up and hair with the form of masks, bodices and colourful neck pieces. Pauly Bonomelli created the jewellery and accessories sculpted from crystallized Swarovski and metals. One of the highlights of this collection was the lucite-heeled print boots and heels, a collaboration with Terry Biviano and this year’s artist collaboration was with Kate Rhodes.

Themes - Nail Slut, Snake Guts, Volcano Girl, and Dino Slut

KSUBI SS10/11
The mischief of Ksubi helps bring a street trendy casual flavour and this collection brought some sexy mesh and panelled body suits and the funkdafied white denim shorts and cross-over pants and the usual combo of denim from Skinny's to straight, ripped, teared and painted and graffiti styled Tee's.

Those Tee's above would be perfect to hide my un-toned arms in the summer hahaha as well as complimenting any denim outfit.

BACKSTAGE CATWALK BAISEMAIN

For those of you, who may or may not been aware, plenty of my photographic sources are from Sonny Vandevelde's fantastic collection of backstage catwalk photos, and his exhibition opened backstage in Melbourne as part of the L'oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival and for those who missed my previous post on Sonny Vandevelde.
Janet Burns quoted from the Sydney Herald, about Vandevelde whom 'doesn't work at the sleek, neat, choreographed end of the catwalk where models pause and pose prettily before twisting away, job done. He works at the other end, the "wrong" end, behind the catwalk's scenes, in the cacophonous storm that rages at the back of a fashion show's relative calm. He shoots amid the racket and chaos of a hundred or more models, make-up artists, hairdressers, stylists, dressers, designers and assistants, all hell-bent on their part in producing those perfect moments at the "right" end of the catwalk.
I every so often, don't embargo a same feel of an outfit just via looking through the catwalk photos. The photo's Sonny captures behind the scenes, brings out a more personal aura of an outfit and focuses more on the personality of models whom are often seen smiling backstage, providing energy to the photos and letting the personalities of the models shine through.

And what I like about Sonny Vandevelde is that he seems to have a dedicated relentless ethos with 'surfer dude' free spirited approach of making backstage models feel at ease, in order for us to see more natural photo's of the models being themselves, and it would be fascinating to see Sonny receive more creative control whether it may be on an editorial or backstage arena.

GREY GOOSE & WEDGES
One of the few rounds I do online is often visit Fashion photography extraordinaire's blog by Sony Vandevelde! presenting us all the glimpses behind the scenes, and a scoop full of new collections in its natural backstage form, I every so often, don't embargo a same feel of an outfit just via looking over the catwalk photos. The photo's Sonny captures behind the scenes, brings out a more personal aura of an outfit and focuses more on the personality of models whom are often seen smiling backstage, providing energy to the photos and letting the personalities of the models shine through.

Sonny himself is a European-born, Sydney-raised photographer. Fed up with the unimaginative “tunnel vision” of his photography instructors, he dropped out of college and learned his craft his own way. And hasn't he just!

A lot of the Swedish labels consistently develop some excellent shoes to kudize their collections each season, especially the likes of Acne and Minimarket. Most of the shoes they produce, like the Acne Atacoma wedge and Minimarket zipper wedge, end up becoming highly sought after on an international scale. I'm sure the shoes above will continue with this trend.

+ GREY GOOSE CHEAP MONDAY
There has always been one fixe I have never got around to doing! and that is colouring my hair white! I have always wanted my hair plantinum blonde white, a medium short choppy white haircut. I have practically changed my hair to every other colour besides white, but I have never got round to changing it white simply because it will likely will not mesh well with my skin colour. I have a caramel skin tone and dark black eyebrows and in the end could end up looking like a crazy old scientist or just simple colour dye done at home, gone complexly wrong......but maybe one of these days when I have a larger collection of hat wear I might take the leap!

I have dyed my hair to gray against black in a bob before, but not as funkdafied as the Cheap Monday collection presented below. showing the many hues of grey hair with the splash of black and whiteOne of the more trends seen outside and inside the shows.

The Knee high mesh socks, bouquet the metallic sheer de constructed garments really nicely, this French label was formed by designers Roy Krejberg and Peachoo Datwani who do not hesitate to create dark pastels along with white cream Grecian style toga draping combined with edgy leather shorts, burn out cuts and a mix of mesh femininity.
