Nick Gentry Floppy Disk Paintings

24 May 2010

I still have dozens of outdated floppy disks laying around the garage and study room, If I recall watching some random T.V show, they had divulged in the idea of using Floppy disks as tea coasters as a great way of recycling an item. Now I did for second ponder the idea of it, but in all honesty, I couldn't imagine a floppy disk placed on the coffee table or sofa armchair and add to that I don't really drink tea or coffee. So I thought that's it! I'm binning them! Now Obviously Nick Gentry thought of no such thing! Nick felt
"Reusing objects can negate the need for waste, with a new function that also often has more charm than that of the original. Seeing art produced in this way can encourage a more creative approach to everyday objects that are deemed to be obsolete or useless. What brings the overall concept to life is that blend of the nostalgic and familiar, together with the freshness of a new form of expression".
In summary Mr Gentry has brought about a whole new movement of creating floppy disk paintings and leaving artistically handwritten labels often left to show through. What I like about this, its using 80's and 90's media format, bringing  a nice nostalgic sense to the piece combined with beautiful illustrations.

Dsquared Sandals • Occupational Hazards

20 May 2010

DSQUARED SANDAL
Crushing on these Electric Sandals, If looks could kill these could be tried for manslaughter...... Cringe-worthy comment

OCCUPATIONAL HAZZARDS
I'm lacking in the shirts department, I'm fortunate that I work in a casual environment, but means I don't get the opportunity to wear a well tailored shirt and pencil skirt at work, on the occasions when I work from home, it becomes a chore getting out of bed in the morning's, I've always been a night owl, and knowing that I will be working home the night before, tempts me to assault any good horse sense and rationality that I possess, and when the clock mobile phone strikes after the 12 point, I'm dashing straight down to my mini humble office at home hoping no-one has noticed, including my oversized nightwear that I'm still wearing. I spurn the web camera.
Back to the topic on shirts, with the weather hotting up, I've been leafing through sites and found the below checked studded shirt/smock dress from Oasis on Sale. I was going to beat on the add to cart button, but I've misplaced by purse somewhere at home, and how I wished there was a Paypal button, or something. If this studded shirt sells out before I discover my purse c'est la vie, it wasn't meant to be.

//White Linda Farrow Sunglasses //Three Princes spiked razor blade Ring via Etsy.  //ASOS Triple Chain Necklace With Studded Ring Charm ASOS
The shirt, combo'd with some Linda Farrow white sunglasses could look electric, albeit realistically, the Farrow sunglasses would look redonkulous! placed on my point sharp nose, but it doesn't come into my equation anyway with the allowance budget in mind. But sadly all wayfarer shapes sunnies don't brew well with my noggin. But I'll turn this deprivation into channelling buying some wayfarers for my sisters, that way I'll feel less handicapped.

Enjoy you're weekend folks Fridays arrived pleasantly rapid this week
Look Forward to updating you all next week, with the Reebok EasyTone Trainers I've received to Trial and find if they truly tone the glutes and legs.

Use unused SS10 • Garland Coo Collection

19 May 2010

HUNGARY'S HOTSPOT
USE unused is one of the most successful young fashion design teams in Hungary, The designers of the brand are Eszter Fuzes, Attila Godena-Juhasz and Andras Toth. Use unused brand officially began in 2006, and for those 4 years up until now, this label has completely been absent on my radar, its's a shame I did not discover this label earlier, but I guess it's never too late and this is the strong SS Collection 10/11. I revere the feminine lady like appearance to the collection with some beautiful cut out shapes and minimalist colours, very graceful yet stylish and on point.

GARLAND COO
Surrounded by the glorious hills and outdoor scenery which is the Black Forest, located in Germany's Baden-Baden and also where based the new label Garland Coo founded in 2009, whom's roots are deeply anchored in the South German Culture in their native landscape as a fathomless source of inspiration. Garland Coo's creative collaboration chimes of a duo designer Jasmin Isabel Eckerle and artist Marcel Singer, whom created a collection of, slim cut silhouettes, sharp tailoring evident in the gorgeous satin ribboned trousers below, hand dyed silks between bondage themes and defined folds. Not forgetting the Black Forestian PomPom's which look as tasty as the Black Forest gateau, Yum.
My favourite of the collection is the tailored trousers with streamed satin ribbons at the front and leaving the back minimal with lacing around the middle of the knees. I am rather excited to see more from Garland Coo, the menswear is also in the pipeline and the label currently dabble in fascinating projects in Art, Films, photography and exhibitions, there must be something in the water over in the Black Forest.

RAFW 10 • Therese Rawsthorne • Romance was Born • Ksubi SS 10/11

18 May 2010

I have been shirking the past few runway shows, thinking over time I will gradually post bits and bobs of some of the latest Spring and Summer collections in small doses, however I quickly came to the conclusion If I am not going to post it now, I never will - not the best of mentality I know, so I had skimmed through some of the RAFW Rosemary Australian Fashion Week collection's over the past few weeks and decided to post some of the collections present below at the RAFW.

Therese Rawsthorne SS10/11 Collection
What captured my inquiring mind and curiosity were the shoes in this collection by Tristian Blair with a silver bangle around the ankle infusing the extremely wearable pieces consisting of blazers with embellished cut leggings the palette inspired by the desert and dry textures, with hand knits, washed cottons and silks of nude, blood red and black.

ROMANCE WAS BORN
Australian design duo Anna Plunkett and Luke Sales created the label Romance was Born 5 years ago after becoming friends studying fashion together at East Sydney Technical College. The SS10/11 dinosaur inspired theme mollified throughout all the quirky accessories, make-up and hair with the form of masks, bodices and colourful neck pieces. Pauly Bonomelli created the jewellery and accessories sculpted from crystallized Swarovski and metals. One of the highlights of this collection was the lucite-heeled print boots and heels, a collaboration with Terry Biviano and this year’s artist collaboration was with Kate Rhodes.

Themes - Nail Slut, Snake Guts, Volcano Girl, and Dino Slut

KSUBI SS10/11
The mischief of Ksubi helps bring a street trendy casual flavour and this collection brought some sexy mesh and panelled body suits and the funkdafied white denim shorts and cross-over pants and the usual combo of denim from Skinny's to straight, ripped, teared and painted and graffiti styled Tee's.

Those Tee's above would be perfect to hide my un-toned arms in the summer hahaha as well as complimenting any denim outfit.

Summer 2010 Sacerdotalism

A SAGATHY OF SUMMER VOCABULARY
The season of summer is around the veer in officially a months time, I gotta feeling not quite like the black eyed peas cut its going to be a excizzorating multi ball of a summer, now having said that being slightly superstitious Summer could very well turn out to be a flop, but it's okay I will make do, if that happens. A little sunshine a cool drink, a family reunion and 20% of the items below goes along way. But the mondo 2 W's will also set the tone of my summer- World Cup + Wimbledon. I realise this post will mean bleach to all the fellow folks living currently in the Southern hemisphere as Summer does not visit at this time of year, my little aussie cousin in Melbourne, scolds me every-time for discussing the opposite factors of weather and season, because its dull to talk about the weather! leading me to think this post is pretty doltish, but I guess at the very least I've registered some of the items below I'm postdating for Summer. I knew I forgot to add something below that cloud and that was the Maxi dress! If you can you think of anything that's not in the list below, I'm sure there's plenty more.

2AM Han Hyo Joo Jambangee Campaign 2010

14 May 2010

ACID WASH JEANS TEES SHIRTS

The above Shirts commemorating the 2010 upcoming World Cup, Jambangee, the Korean label has released specially designed T-shirts special edition for the world cup. In its striking Red colour. Once the World Cup is upon is, there's nothing better than adorning the World Cup team colours with mesh of acid colour jeans and some snazzy pair of trainers or sport wedges, lazing around watching the game in the sun with a drink in one hand, and the other arm preparing to be raised when a goal is scored. If your familiar with the Korean music industry the above boys are from the music group 2 AM, I could really easily mistake them as being professional apparel models...............  I'm slowly but surely starting to build up to the World Cup fever!

Snack on Paani Puri Clothing

If any of you have ever foraged into the Indian Subcontinent and have felt starving marving and encounter one of the street vendors out of many, you would most likely catch the popular street snack called Paani Puri, being cooked in alls its savoir-faire. I think there's no one in the Indian Subcontinent who wouldn't recognise a Panni Puri, when they see one! That is probably why at 5:30am Rish Oberoi was watching Batman The Dark Knight, but could only think to himself, "how amazing would Paani Puri be right now? "While sitting there in a daze, hoping to somehow find Paani Puri around his house, he began to think how funny, no, how CRAZY!! it would be if “The Joker” was eating Paani Puri

This thought stuck in his mind, and that very same day he went through his phone book to call anyone who could create this image. And EUREKA! He found her! Wait Wait, before we go on, her name is actually EUREKA! (this is the most serious part of the story and not a joke….). That’s how Paani Puri clothing line begun, simply a joke made into a reality.” I think that's what I'd call Carpe Diem.
