Autumnal Art

Along with the fast approaching autumn comes a wealth of vibrant colours and textures for the eager interior designer. Deep reds and burnt oranges have long been a staple of the creative pallet but there are plenty of other innovative ways to bring those rich tones, earthy smells and crackling textures into the home.

DIY enthusiasts will be out combing the forest floors for sweet smelling pine cones and feathered ferns that can lend an air of autumn to any home. In fact, with such a wealth of ready-made mediums, including the fruits of the harvest, you can really let your imagination fly and create wreathes and bouquets from maple leaves. With their vivid and varied colours they make a wonderful addition to collages and other pictures or simply left on a branch and placed in a medicine jar for a skeletal bouquet.

Pumpkins and other squashes can be dried and used, if not for Halloween, then a candle or incense holder bringing a sweet fragrance to your autumnal apartment can also do the trick. Colourful berries, acorns and other seeds should be used to create wreaths or garlands to adorn your mantles.

Perfect Prints

I've been looking forward to complimenting some seasonal discoveries with a few carefully selected art prints to bring coherence to the theme. Autumnal landscapes are an obvious choice but, as long as you stay faithful to your natural colour scheme, you are free to express yourself with whichever image takes your fancy.

To bring a little glamour and romance to your décor you could mix it up with luxurious golds, silvers, browns and yellows of Gustav Klimt or, for a more abstract and artistic feel go with the muted browns and pastel greens of a classic Picasso. For a more graphical and seasonally inspired look try Japanese printmaker Katsushika Hokusai and for those looking to capture a little more passion, then hang a piece of Parisian urban mythology with Robert Doisneau's Kiss.

Whatever style of print you go for be sure to aim for a large piece that compliments your autumnal creations and brings a sense of the season into your home. I usually Head over to Posterlounge where you'll find all of the images you'll need to create the perfect home interior this autumn.

Queens Jubilee : Street Art Banksy

31 May 2012

Summer 2012 emerges to be a chock - full festive season with the Olympics kicking off on 27th July, Euro 2012 8th June and The Queen’s Jubilee this coming weekend.  In case some of you have been in hiding :) , this weekend is the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, and marks the Queen’s 60th year on the throne, I'm not a royalist but I guess it's not often we get a 4 day weekend to kick back, so have a long glorious weekend folks.

Banksy piece has been spotted on the outer wall of a Poundland near the Turnpike Lane Tube station with bunting in tow inspired by the Queen's upcoming Diamond Jubilee and notably shed's light on child labour issues. Why Poundland? Well over the past few years, the company has been at the centre of controversy after it was revealed that a seven-year-old boy was working 100 hour weeks to produce their goods. The company have since severed ties with the supplier in question.

I like how the piece is made 3D and lifted with the use of the fabric flag bunting, but more-so for the statement this street art brings.

Your portrait as a vintage Chinese propaganda hero

11 May 2012

History was always one of my favourite subjects.. politics not so much !! but both of them go hand in hand.

I know pretty much zilch about Chinese Maoism, though im aware Chinese vintage propaganda posters has always been notable for it's red and black artistic impressions of a surreal cartoonist style and producing extraordinary poster designs, capturing the stalwart nature of the soaring human spirit of the peoples optimism. A large number of the posters are quite unique, and will bedazzle forever in the history of Chinese art.

Now you can have your portrait oil painted like a chinese propoganda artist ! Become a hero ! check out Maoart

Maoart paintings integrate with virtuosity real people’s faces into faithfully reproduced propaganda posters. Based on a photograph provided by you and a poster of your choice, an artist renders you as a socialist hero. Each painting requires several days of work, and the result is always outstanding. It's a very original gift idea.

The element of romanticism makes the arts more visionary and what has more sentimentality than yours or your loved ones portrait. Beware not to brainwash the masses!

Bjork Biophilia Visuals

12 Oct 2011

Bjork doesn't do things by half measures! still showing she’s ahead of her time...Beseech the striking new Album Art Biophilia » A Visual Blowout exploring of a union between technology and music«

Biophilia will be the world's first app album in collaboration with Apple. Björk has described the project as a multimedia collection, encompassing music, apps, internet, installations, and live shows.

I'm pretty ignorant of her music besides the mainstream hit ' It's Oh So Quiet' but what I can sense is that she is a daring visionary, with her music, art, style, and technology.

Crayon Rings

27 Jul 2010

CRAYON COLOUR JEWELLERY

The inner child in me would still like to pick up some waxy crayons and colour some flowers trees and horses and bees. But it would have never occurred to me that they would come in form of a ring. If unlike this hyena, the voice of your inner child is silent, wouldn't these make a perfect goodie for the young toddlers, if considering they are affirmly able to stick to only doodling on paper.

These creations are designed by Timothy Liles and feels "the Crayon Rings have proven to be a product with true mass appeal. They seem to hit a nostalgic and happy spot for so many different types of people, and that makes me happy."

The product has taken off and is sold in shops, museums, and galleries all over the world such as the Future Perfect in Brooklyn, the Tate Gallery in London, Oye Modern in Australia, The Norweigan Centre for Design and Architecture in Oslo, Handmade in Switzerland, the list goes on.

Pasting Assortment Fashion Collage

These collages are an art of confession, I can spend a moment focusing on one delectable part of the collage and then move on to another. I do not know who created some of these fab collages, if it was youu, let me know so I can credit your name to the collage. Collages take me back to buying numerous fashion magazines along with a few sport magazines and using my special scissors and making random cuttings, but you don't really need scissors now... I love Photoshop and then there's Polyvore.

Jin Young Yu

9 Jan 2010

what is essential is invisible to the eye

There's something hauntingly beautiful about Jin Youn Yu's transparent sculptures, the artist Youn Yu was inspired by invisible people, about people who, instead of getting along with others, choose to keep a distance from them, and be invisible or be left alone unconcerned. Instead of trying to fit into the world, they climb into a space of their own and reject other people’s intrusions.
