{Runway} Dean Quinn Spring Summer 2012

12 Sept 2011

Dean Quinn's Debut at New York Fashion Week

A Hyper minimalism poly-chromatic wearable collection, floor + knee length dresses + pleated skirts. My highlight is the hair weave-basket hair.  ○ Photos: Amanda Hakan, powered by Leica Camera.

I hope you like the new makeover on this blog!? I went for a more minimal look, maybe I went a tad too far, but I can tinker and add more to it later, when I become more antsy and restless.

Zalando Shoe Review

7 Sept 2011

Have you heard of the online store Zalando? Well neither did I .. until a month ago when I received a certain email kindly offering the chance to pick an item from a store called Zalando. Shoes were numero uno on my list and Zalando has more than plenty of them, I was surprised to see they stock my fave Jeffrey Campbell and the likes of sigerson morrison, united nude, Surface to Air, Dr Martins etc but whom am I kidding I can't afford them this month and the month after, so I was content to see they stock high street ranges as well as the off-beat brands, which always seems to peek my interest. Ultimately the platform Sandals below were the stealer.

I like any online store that can provide a Free Delivery and Free Returns service and Zalando does so Kudos to them, so no matter what happens you only ever pay the amount that is stated on the website, I love this, as I like to try things on before I commit. My delivery took 4 days, I felt it is suffice since it's free postage. Zign Platform Sandals - brown

These were, one of the few platform styled heels I can muster to walk in, because I'm anything but ladylike whilst walking in agonizing shoes. I’ll take solace in the fact that balance is not my strong point.

{DIY} Spike Hair Comb

31 Aug 2011

August is almost over (sniff sniff) but not before I share this super DIY by the primo pair Erica and Lauren of  Honestly WTF. They have DIY’d Maison Michel’s metal spike comb, seen in Paris below. As for DIY's, this one looks completely do-able, even I couldn't possibly mess this up, Uh-oh, now I said it .. anti jinx potion needed, yes not a little superstitious.

You’ll need:
liquid super glue (not gel)

Start by adding a small amount of liquid super glue to one end of the comb. Place a metal spike on top of the glue and hold it in place for at least 30 seconds. Let it dry completely before letting go.

Glue another spike to the other end of the comb. Then, using a ruler, place the rest of the spikes along the length of the comb to make sure there is enough spacing between each spike.

Continue glueing each spike, alternating from one side to another.

Stick the spiked comb in a bed of teased and tousled hair!

Do you hate the word Fashion?

26 Aug 2011

Sometimes I feel the word 'FASHION' is made-up of a flammable orb, that ignites our world's diva complex. I never feel comfortable describing this blog.. as a fashion blog, the word itself seems to resonate negative associations, conjuring up images of the fickle nature of celebrity culture, materialistic snootish air, bullshit media correspondents. But I profess, the description of this blog is not important, Why? because it really doesn't matter in the large scheme of things, I shouldn't have a problem with the word 'FASHION' but with it's associations that comes along with the word.

It doesn't help when I see fashion slang used as the ones in the illustration below, I have to develop a more thicker skin but I will always dislike with a passion 'worst dressed' 'hot or not' and articles of what not to wear, I will never understand conformism, I please myself to wear whatever I want,  but I'm not one for dismissing something for being popular either. Thus I'm gonna end this friday's post with a smile that is a curve that sets everything straight. { forgive me for that usage, I only heard it today :-)

Can you think of anymore undermining fashion lingo?

Snapshots No.7 Lock Detach Collar Trend

23 Aug 2011

The collar rebellion is in full flow, lock and detach it! so many to choose from, glad to see that some of the collars are now affordable, to boot they look D.I.Y friendly, So turn your collar up to some sinfulness and fudge the lines between the crimes.. without the bulk of a fixed shirt.

DANNIJO COLLAR NECKLACES
Best bib and tucker, Dannijo accessories is point blank acapulco gold, scamper to check out the collection here, I think they're priced very well too, bearing they're not priced for the high street but just a tad above that market, something I could afford to buy sparingly. Adjoa Osei: Adapt Capsule Collection

19 Aug 2011

Venture into the heart of sub-Saharan Africa? at first glance it heralds the ambiance of west African folklore which verges into the signature woven fabric, though as folklore's go, this collection also conveys timeless and classical elements. London budding designer, Adjoa Osei describes it as 'Experimentally Classic', enhancing everyday wearable pieces for women, with an array of hand finished jersey vests, loose fitting tops and bright maxi skirts all emboldened with well placed accents of alluring color and print.

To view the capsule collection Adapt please visit http://www.adjoaosei.com/#/collection/1/

Adapt: Reshaping the way we view and wear prints. Adapt is an eight piece, limited edition capsule collection with hand woven detail. The focus of Adapt is clean lines and classic shapes with injections of print, colour and detail. As a prelude to the winter collection, Adapt explores the different ways that smart/casual wear can be enhanced by African print. Gone are the days when prints were sporadically featured in 'safari' inspired collections or dusted off for cultural celebrations. Prints defy seasonal trends, and can be dressed up or pared down. The options are infinite. Season by season, trend by trend, I invite you to join me in this creative dialogue. Adjoa Osei

Anastasia of Beverly Hills Review: Coming Soon

18 Aug 2011

I've been approached to undertake a product review for Anastasia of Beverly Hills, who are long standing definitive eye and brow expert for icons such as Madonna, Jennifer Lopez, Oprah as well as up-and-comers like Diana Agron, Selena Gomez and Kristen Cavalari.

My first thought was crikey! this is to a lady who is guilty of neglecting her eyebrows and delaying visits to her beauty therapist and encore. Should I or shouldn't I? You all know what my answer was right.. since I'm writing this post.. so why did I say yes? My rationale being, I wanted to review this product since it's high time I gave more of my personal thoughts back to my readers, but additionally, It's an opportunity to declare I'm a parabens free advocate, free from deadly chemicals and preservative.

Over the years, it's become a big NO-NO from me, in terms of using cosmetics that contain harmful chemicals, health foods and house hold products, we're routinely exposed to such things daily, so it's positive to hear Anastasia Beverly Hills have expanded into skincare based cosmetics, I can't wait to put it to the test! After-all cosmetics should help make your skin look and feel and be healthy! So watch this space for an upcoming review.
Read labels and become an empowered shopper! :-)
