Academics & Geek Chic

WHY DID I NOT LOOK LIKE THIS AT SCHOOL?
//ph Michele Malka
It's funny how things change, when I was at high school, there was nothing more embarrassing than wearing girly knee high socks, it was all about scrunching the socks down to the ankles, to provide a more rebel care-free look! There was also no such thing as geek chic back then! Our uniform was in Burgundy and black and oddly enough, I  still at times, get put off wearing Burgundy since I had to wear it for all those years.

Good Luck to all those taking their exams and G.C.S.E's and A'levels, it's never too late for some last minute revision cramming. I was never able to revise unless under pressure and deadline, all nighters and last minute cramming is all I know!

As some of you may know the World Cup kicked off last Friday, and every spare minute I have had has been devoted to watching the games, which in all likely will result in slackness creeping in to updating this blog, forgive me non-sports fans, but this hyena will be wearing football shirts adorning the flags sipping merrily and soaking up the atmosphere, but hey there's always time to gaze at some tasty shoes. Much Love to You all ..........

Really happy for the South Africans hosting the World Cup this time round, I'm sure they're going to make it a vibrant spectacular tournament, even for the non football fans, the carnival atmosphere is always fun and merry to join in with, it doesn't matter if you're not sure what the term ' Offside' means. Have a Great Weekend everyone....And Congratulations to Maria Doytchinova for the well deserved nomination at the 10th AFA Austria Fashion Awards, for the In Comment Collection.

HANNAH MENZIES FIGURE SKATING SHOES

Hannah Menzies showcased a figure skating inspired collection at the graduate Westminster show, what really makes this collection remember-able were the white skates astutely fixed with a clear perspex wedge material so the models were able to walk in them. Made by a cast surrounding the ice skate blades with clear resin so they would look like they'd been cut out of ice. I would relish to get a pair of these skates on the high street!

The Elizabeth and James shades would probably be the safer bet out of the whole lot, having a small round face, can be difficult to find sunglasses for, I cant pull off the other funkdafied sunglasses, but sighs, I can appreciate the aesthetics of them from afar. Currently the weather here has gone back to dull and dreary dodging rain hour, so the only shades I currently own, have gone back to the drawer. For now the brollie is back in full use... mustn't complain though haha

SPEECH BUBBLE STATEMENTS
Chalk one up for this emerging young designer from Sydney, Blackboard Brooch, speech bubble brooches Make the statement you want to make, then rub it out and start again..... Mine should read SLACKER, since last week blog slackness crept in, I was swept up by the Roland Garros Tennis finale along with a BBQ blitz and Family Wedding. CONGRATULATIONS RAFA
The nervousness was killing me this weekend, But I was absolutely elated for Rafael Nadal, who lifted his fifth Roland Garros title, after coming back from bad injury problems and enduring a tough year. He's a tennis player who I've followed closely over the last 6 years, and have had the pleasure of watching him play in the Monte Carlo Masters.  He's always been a class act on and off the court and I am so proud to be his fan - not just today but always.

The person behind Darcel is a New York based illustrator Craig Redman.Redman’s posts are personal diary entries of what he does in New York on a daily basis, and through his computer-generated illustrations, he puts his alter ego of Darcel through the paces of simple but unfortunate events, where it could only occur in Darcel's world.
